1950-1965: Creation of the collection. Item acquisition from collections in Athens, Thessaloniki, Volos and Larissa.

March 1955: Purchase of the furniture of Heinrich Schliemann in Ilion Melathron from an antique shop in Athens.

March 1967: First exhibition of the 150 items of the collection in Pervanideio School of Larissa under the initiative of the Association "Aristefs".

December 1981: Proposal to the Mayor Ar. Lamproulis for the donation of the 631 collection items to the Municipality of Larissa with a unique term the foundation of a Municipal Art Gallery and the construction of its own building.

April 1982: Exhibition of 84 items of the collection (A’ period) in the Town hall of Larissa

August 1982: Exhibition of 75 items of the collection (B’ period) in the Town hall of Larissa

October 1983: Exhibition of 125 items of the collection (C’ period) in the Town hall of Larissa

December 1983: The Legal Person of the Municipal art gallery - Museum G. I. Katsigra is established. Its objectives are the organisation of exhibition, the operation of workshops and library and the collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, cultural institutions and museums.

January 1984: Exhibition of the Katsigras’ collection titled "Modern Greek Art" in the National Art Gallery.

January 1985: Proclamation of the Pan-Hellenic Architectural Contest for the construction of the building of Municipal Art Gallery in the district of Neapoli. The first prize went to the study of A. Pikramenos, S. Laggoussi, E. Parris, V. Stamoulis, X. Papaevaggeliou and I. Vergitsakis.

January 1986: The convention is signed between the Municipality of Larisa and the researchers.

March 1986: The Free Artistic Workshop is established.

March 1988: Exhibition of 99 items of the collection (D' period) in the Town hall of Larissa

April 1988: Exhibition of the Katsigras’ collection in the Municipal Art Gallery of Thessaloniki.

1989: The presentation of the studies of the construction of the Gallery’s building is accomplished.

March 1990: Exhibition of the Katsigras’ collection in the Art gallery of the Municipality of Athens.

August 1990: Exhibition of the Katsigras’ collection in the international Festival of Patra.

November 1990: The convention for the construction of the Gallery’s building is signed by the company Texn-er A.E.

December 1990: The foundation of the building.

1992: Two exhibition halls are created in the 2nd and 3rd floor of Chatzigianneio Cultural Centre for the exhibition of 110 representative items.

December 1992: Official openings of the exhibition in the Chatzigianneio Cultural Centre.

December 1996: Additional donation of other 93 items. The collection includes 724 items.

March 1998: After the death of Georgios Katsigras, there are bequeathed in the Municipal Art Gallery 1170 books of art of his personal library, 57 more paintings, as well as the furniture of Heinrich Schliemann.

1999: Development of museological study by the architects S. Charalampidou, E. Charalampidou, and K. Laskaridis for the essential regulations of the building.

1999-2000: Completion of the first phase of the construction works by company KTITOR A.E.

2001-2003: Second phase of the construction works by the company K/X N.Argyriou – D.Provopoulos.

November 2003: Inauguration of the Municipal Art Gallery Larissa - Museum G. I. Katsigra from the President of the Republic Kostis Stefanopoulos (a building of 4.800 m2. in a plot of 10.000 m2)
