Larissa was one of the first cities that declared attendance in the program "Integration in the National Program of Road Safety of work of interventions concretisation for the safe circulation of bicycles and the manufacture of the cycle network" of the Ministry of Transports and Communications.
The Technical Department of the Municipality With worked out a sturdy in 1994 for the re-introduction of the bicycle and the decongestion of the city from vehicles, which was the first study for a cycle network all over city.
Until 2000, there were manufactured individual cycle routes of 3 km length by the Municipality, in the districts of the city, where existed the possibility, as well as in the edges of Penios of 3 km length.
Larissa was one of the first cities that declared its attendance in the program of the Ministry of Transports and Communications "Integration in the National Program of Road Safety of interventions works for the safe circulation of bicycles and the construction of cycle routes" and moved to the first phase of the cycle network program.
The works were completed in 2003 with cycle routes of 10km and with a future extension of 54km. The main characteristics of the study was the balanced bicycle cover of the connections of the city’s centre to all directions and the approach of the poles of city’s attraction, giving priority to schools, archaeological sites and Penios.
