Giftodimos Kostas or Karagiorgis
A leader of the thessalian Resistance, he was chief of the Thessalian Headquarters of ELAS and was recorded in history with the alias «Karagiorgis». He found himself in Larissa at the end of 1942 sent by EAM (National Unity of Resistance) and KKE (Communist Party of Greece).
He established panthessalian and nomarchical resistance groups, formed of representatives from various political parties. He worked at achieving the militarisation of the partisans and one of his first mandates was not to execute individuals for treason, but to make a brief and send them off to the court martials of ELAS. His seal is apparent in the thessalian EAM, which stood out for its discipline and high ideals. When he became the third administrative member of the 1st Thessalian Division, he was distinguished for his strategic duties.
He, himself, was an example of good appearance and insisted on the good appearance of the partisans. He was intelligent, perspicacious, daring, active, courageous and had a disarming sense of humour. He was distinguished for his broad education, his intellect, he was fluent in french, german, russian and english and was a prominent figure who proved himself in the midst of shattering martial and political events.
He was elected national counsellor of the province of Larissa, which he represented at the National Council of Korrishades, where he was elected to the Secretariat in recognition of his contribution. After the liberation, he took over the newspaper «Rizospastis» and proved to be one of its best article writers and directors.
