The Greek Mountaineering Association was founded in 1932 aiming at the wider spreading of mountaineering and afterwards of climbing and skiing also. It is one of the most important associations of Larissa with intense presence in its society.

The continual action of the association, for seven and more decades, has as result to bring the citizens of Larissa more near to the nature and to create a sentiment of love for the mountain and the adventure. Moreover the members of the association have the opportunity to travel, to gain new experiences, new friendships and to develop collective spirit. Thus, during all of these years were organised innumerable ascents on the tallest tops of Greece, excursions for ski, overnight stays in the shelters of Olympus and Kissavos mountains, races on the snow, crossings of rivers and ravines.

In 1936, the E.O.S. of Larissa participated in two important events related to the transport of Olympic flame from Olympia to Berlin for the Olympic Games. The members of association participated in Olympic flame torch race from Farsala to Larissa and also organised ascent on the top “Skolio” of Olympus with intention to greet the Olympic flame torch race from the highest Greek mountain.

In 1938 was recommended a committee for the coordination of the construction of the shelter of Larissa’s E.O.S. on Kissavos mountain. The same year began its foundation on the site “Kanalos” (altitude 1604m.) which lasted about one year.

In 1941 - 1945, the activities of association were suspended because of the German Occupation of Greece during World War II. during this period at the shelter of “Kissavos” mountain functioned illegally a printing-house of the Greek resistance.

In the decades of the ' 50 and the ' 60, the association attracted young people because of his activation in the organisation of excursions for ski. Thus, was created a new current of action between the members of association.

In 1972, the association celebrated its 40 years at the area of Prophet Elias country church of Rapsani village with presence of many climbers and Christos Kakalos, who was the first Greek climber who climbs on the top of Olympus mountain in 1913.

In 1984, the association began an effort of briefing on the dangers of the mountain, with mountaineering courses and projection of relative transparencies from experienced climbers. The aim of this effort was to be emphasized that the mountaineering is enjoyable and not dangerous.

In the same rhythm, the association continues its activities, giving motives at the young people to participate to a association which loves and respects the nature.
