7th Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities
7th Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities is a Regional- special Department of the Greek Ministry of Culture and is located at 46 Anthimou Gazi Street.
It was founded in 1973; First director was Mrs Fani Drosogiannis, afterwards and for a period of thirty years, the director was Mr Lazarus Deriziotis. The last one retired in 2003 and undertook Mrs Aspasia Ntina.
From 2005, the territorial competence of 7th Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities is the geographical area of Prefecture of Larissa and Magnesia; its main responsibilities are the protection of Byzantine and post Byzantine monuments of the 5th century A.D. until 1830, as well as, the realization of all relative transactions and consultations to citizens and to a vary of cultural and public institutions.
Within the competences of 7th Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities are included:
• Identification of monuments
• Documentation of monuments and mobile cultural heritage objects
• Preservation of monuments and archaeological sites
• Conservation works for mobile and non- mobile monuments
• Organizing new collections
• Organising temporary exhibitions
• Organising educational programs
• Organisation of cultural events
• Organisation of conferences
Also within the activities of 7th Ephorate are included the protection of monuments and the application of archaeological legislation as well as informing citizens for relevant issues.
Concerning human resources, the scientific staff of 7th Ephorate includes 5 archaeologists, 2 engineers, 2 designers and 11 employees of administrative sector, 3 conservation experts, 3 guardians and 4 technicians.
